A Legacy of Trusted Eye Care
Rafiek Banderker qualified as an Optometrist in 1995 from the University of Durban-Westville. With a passion for providing quality eye care and personalised service, he began his professional journey and established a reputation for excellence within the community.
Gateway Optical Centre was originally located in Gateway Centre on Temple Road, behind Gatesville Medical Centre. After years of dedicated service, Rafiek purchased the practice in 1998, marking the beginning of a new chapter focused on growth, innovation, and patient-centred care.
In 2002, the practice relocated to its current premises at 18 Hazel Road, Gatesville, offering improved accessibility and the added convenience of secure on-site parking for patients. Continuing its expansion, Gateway Optical Centre acquired a second branch in August 2008 at Kensington Shopping Centre, 12th Avenue, Kensington, allowing the practice to serve an even broader community.
Today, Gateway Optical Centre remains committed to delivering exceptional eye care, combining clinical expertise with a warm, family-oriented approach.
